A note on the attempt to murder Donald Trump: the best journalism about it has yet to be produced. Rather than be timely I’m waiting to feature anything until next week’s newsletter. As I reflect on the event I found myself revisiting a speech from 1968, delivered on the occasion of the assassination of Martin Luther King Jr. by Robert F. Kennedy, who lost a brother to an assassin’s bullet and would be killed by one himself.
